Traditional seed starting mix has no nutritional value for the plant. Potting mix has a limited amount, but lacks the components herbs benefit from to be as nutritionally rich and medicinally potent as they can.
This herb seed starting mix was designed specifically for medicinal herbs. It has everything herbs will need to get them from germination to up-potting if necessary, to being transplanted into your garden. Here’s the breakdown of each ingredient and what they do.
- Screened Compost: Contains the bulk of the food for the plant. Creates an environment to thrive.
- Perlite: Ensures adequate drainage
- Worm casting: An amazing food for the plant, but it’s very gentle and is a slow-release natural fertilizer.
- Biochar: Holds enough moisture to support healthy growth, and creates a habitat for plant loving microbes. It also improves the nutrient availability in plants. **Don’t use too much though, or it will trap the nutrients in the soil, and the plants will not be able to take them in.
- Kelp or Rock dust: Provides trace minerals for the plant.
- Mycorrhizal fungi: Improves the nutrient uptake into the plant, and is great for root health and development.
