There are several respiratory illnesses and conditions that interfere with proper respiratory function. Whether it’s a short-term illness or a chronic condition, when the lungs suffer, the whole body suffers.
There are several herbs that can be used to support and build the lungs, break apart and thin mucus, decrease inflammation, and support the cardiovascular system.
I created the “Respiratory Recovery Tea” when our family had Covid in 2023. Because I am immunocompromised and have asthma, I was particularly vulnerable to complications…and I had them.
After a little while of incorporating these herbs into my daily routine, I saw HUGE improvements in my lung function, and all of my cardiac symptoms started fading away.
The Herbs
- Mullein Leaf (Verbascum thapsus) – supports lung function, builds, and tones
- Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis) – expectorant
- Marshmallow (Althea officinalis) – balances mucus production and soothes airways
- Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum) – supports the body during times of stress
- Nettle (Urtica dioica) – anti-inflammatory and nutritive to provide the body with necessary vitamins and minerals
- Hawthorn Berry (Crataegus monogyna Jacq) – cardioprotective and supports healthy cardiac electrical activity
Some of these herbs should not be taken with certain medical conditions or on certain medications.
For example, Hyssop should not be taken during pregnancy. Be sure to research each herb to ensure it’s safety before you use it.
